Day one. Open the box.

August 16, 2015
Today we made the leap and opened the box of the juicer.  And we took it out.

I got it washed and set up while John started preparing some of the fruit for juicing.

I lined the pulp bucket with one of the bio degradable bags that we can put right into the compost bin.  Next summer we plan to start doing our own composting.  For now though we let someone else take care of that part of things. And I'm not quite ready to freeze it for meatloaf or something.

So we started simple.  4 oranges.  Wow!   That was so good.  Fresh orange juice.  Reminded me of Mexico.  Check.  We'll do our own fresh oj.

Next we added 2 carrots to the oj.  Even better.  The tartness of the oj is cut by the carrot juice.  It was a little thick so I think cutting it with a little water prior to serving would be good.

Ok - so far, so good.  This is fun and its tasting good.

I have never liked apple juice, but I've said I would be open to trying stuff, so 3 Fuji apples were up.  John used an apple corer because I just am not ready for apple seeds in my juice yet (I remember as a kid hearing if you eat the apple core, little trees will grow out your ears). But we did leave the peel on them.

Apple juice was great!  It was nothing like the store bought stuff.  This I could drink easily!  Um, better be careful though with the amount of this!

We're on a roll now.  Strawberries and banana.  That sounds great!  We decided to go for about a cup of stemmed strawberries and juiced them right into the apple juice.  Pretty color!!  Send in the banana.

Did you know that you can't get juice from a banana?  Yeah, that puppy squished right into the pulp bucket.  Oops.  Note to self: Put bananas in the blender, not the juicer.

The strawberry/apple juice was a little too sweet but I think would have been great with the banana and a little almond milk or plain yogurt.  I'll have to try that tomorrow.

And that ends our first day of juicing.  I think I'm going to like this way of having my fruits and veggies (once I start adding the veggies, that is).

My editor, hard at work.....
